Celebrating!

On January 18th, our dear sister Lou, wife to Robin and mom to 3 beautiful kids, was shockingly diagnosed with an aggressive, advanced stage of breast cancer.

We all got the news at the end of our Thursday morning ladies Bible study and prayed for her immediately. Since then, the church has been praying for healing, bringing meals, and trying to encourage their sweet family in any way we could.

Each update after the various recovery steps (pet scan, biopsy, lumpectomy, etc.) kept getting better. The pet scan showed that the cancer had not spread to other parts of the body. "Aggressive, advanced-stage cancer" became a localised, earlier stage cancer.

And this morning, 4 weeks later, we got the following email from her:

Dear friends

It is with great joy and relief that I share with you news given to us by my doctor today. After lab testing of everything they took out of me during last week’s surgery, it has been concluded that I do not have cancer! The doctors told me that they have never seen a case turn out like mine. Basically every test that was done prior to the surgery (including many mammograms, multiple MRI scans, PET Scan and biopsy) gave false positives for cancer. Either that or some miraculous healing took place between these tests and surgery. Either way, I stand as the exception …the one in a thousand who walk away from this kind of diagnosis having experienced such a turnaround! This is purely the grace of God and we are so grateful.

It has been a really challenging month that started with a devastating diagnosis of what appeared to be an aggressive and advanced cancer, and dealing with that as a family. Yet throughout this time, by the grace of God we have had peace and a strong sense of assurance that He is with us and is more than enough for whatever lay ahead. We have been greatly encouraged by all the prayers, concern shown and practical ways in which we have been supported during this time by you our friends in church, neighborhood, work and far away places. Thank you so much.

It has been quite an experience to be confronted by my mortality and then to receive a Get Out of Jail Free Card (doctor‘s words).

We are so grateful to God for showing his generosity toward Lou and her family. God healed her body and intensified her already great testimony of how He has worked in her life. Praise be to Jehovah Rapha!

We celebrated this morning that God has overcome death, not just for eternity, but for today.
